Why Our Work Matters
The Challenge
In the UK today, a child’s future is still too often shaped by the circumstances they are born into:
In 2024, only 43.6% of pupils eligible for free school meals achieved a grade 4 or above in English and Maths GCSEs – compared to 72.3% of pupils not eligible for free school meals (Source: House of Commons Library Research Briefing).
In London boroughs like Barking & Dagenham, over 1 in 3 children grow up in poverty, limiting access to enrichment activities, private tutoring and other support.
These numbers are not just statistics – they represent young people with dreams and potential, whose opportunities are narrowed before they even leave school.

Parents: The Most Powerful Influence
Research shows that parents are the single biggest influence on a child’s educational success.
When parents are confident, informed, and engaged in their child’s learning:
GCSE results rise – by as much as 15% for pupils whose parents are actively involved.
Yet many parents tell us they feel under-equipped to navigate the education system, support learning at home or access the right opportunities. That’s where Beyond Education comes in.
Home learning environments matter just as much as parental education or occupation, demonstrating that what parents do can override socioeconomic disadvantage.
Our Solution
Build strong home learning routines
Support homework and revision effectively
Access local opportunities for their children
Create a positive, resilient family culture
The Ripple Effect
The impact of a supported and confident parent doesn’t stop at one child. It spreads to siblings, neighbours, extended family, and the wider community. This is why our work is called Beyond Education – because it’s not just about grades, but about raising confident, capable young people who will go on to shape the future.
Be part of the change.
